Uruguay Comes Up Short in Semifinal Clash
WEB Colombia advanced to the Copa América final following a 1-0 win over Uruguay at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte North Carolina on Wednesday. Jefferson Lerma scored the only goal of the match in the first half, and Colombia held on to the lead despite playing with 10 men for the final 20 minutes.
James Rodríguez, who has been in impressive form throughout the tournament, provided the assist for Lerma's goal. The Real Madrid star now has six assists in the Copa América, and he will be looking to add to his tally in the final.
Uruguay had a number of chances to equalize in the second half, but they were unable to find a way past Colombia's defense. The match was marred by an injury to Uruguay's Edinson Cavani, who was forced off in the second half with a calf problem.
Colombia will now face either Argentina or Brazil in the Copa América final, which will be played on Saturday in Rio de Janeiro. Los Cafeteros will be looking to win their first Copa América title since 2001.
