Mavericks Acquire Defensive Wing in Three-Team Trade
Deal Finalized with Spurs and Celtics
Dallas Lands Derrick White
The Dallas Mavericks have successfully added to their defensive capabilities by acquiring Derrick White from the San Antonio Spurs in a three-team trade that also involves the Boston Celtics. The move fulfills the Mavericks' offseason goal of bolstering their wing defense.
According to The Athletic's Shams Charania, the Celtics are sending White to the Spurs, while the Mavericks are trading Josh Richardson and a second-round draft pick to San Antonio. The Celtics, in turn, are receiving a future second-round draft pick from the Mavericks.
White, a 27-year-old shooting guard, has established himself as a reliable defender and a capable scorer. He averaged 9.1 points, 3.5 assists, and 3.0 rebounds per game with the Spurs last season while shooting 44.6% from the field and 38.6% from three-point range.
